Constructed of heavy duty 1050 Denier Ballistic nylon and mil-spec webbing with contrasting load-bearing stitching. The Ambulatory Victim Extraction Device, or AVED, is a lightweight hoistable Ambulatory patient extraction device that allows for the rapid hoist and/or short-haul extraction of survivors.

The AVED can be hoisted via double-lift (in tandem with rescuer/medic) or single-up extractions.

The AVED system is lightweight and easy to use. Form and efficiency in function were the top priority in its ability to allow the Rescuer/Medic to quickly and effectively pack an ambulatory patient for hoist or short-haul extraction. The design and function of the AVED was accomplished by a team of dedicated helicopter hoist professionals keeping the simplicity of usage and functional efficiency of the professional end-user in mind.

It’s robust build and internal chest strap were developed with multiple body types and sizes in mind. The adjustable safety strap and webbing loop as well as oversized hoisting rings come together for easy attachment for hoisting. SOLAS retro-reflective strips and elastic webbing loops for chemical light attachment were added for visibility and easy identification during nighttime and/or low visibility missions. Multiple lifting handles along the midline of the back allow for easy team movement of the patient while on the ground, as well as Tagline/Trail line attachment points for load stabilization.

Accompanying the AVED is a hoistable carrying case with two integrated pockets/pouches for gear and or tagline/Trail line accessories. The large carrying handle was designed to allow hoist hook attachment making it easier for the hoist operator to insert the gear to the requesting ground crew, or rescue specialist to attach and carry with them. An internal webbing loop and Fastec buckle inside the AVED allows the rescuer to attach the AVED Bag inside during retrieval thus not having to clip on themselves or risk losing it.
