Description

LSC cable litter slings have been designed specifically for use with our 402, 404, and 406 (series) litters and provide the durability, strength, and environmental resistance for use in the harshest maritime environments. LSC has been making cable litter slings for the U.S. Military for over 37 years and their design has been proven on over a million helicopter and boat hoists.

Limitations

  • LSC cable litters are specifically designed and tested for use on LSC manufactured litters only. Use on non-LSC litters is not authorized or recommended.
  • 190 (series) slings made for the U.S. Navy are made in accordance with a contract control drawing and as such are not proof loaded by LSC prior to shipment.
  • 190 (series) slings are subject to dynamic roll out from the Aerial Slide-LOK hook and is not recommended for use with that device.

Label Information

190 (series) slings have a tag on each long (foot end) leg of each sling with the part number, serial number, and date of manufacture.

193 (series) slings are laser engraved with part#, serial#, and DOM on each V-Ring.

Maintenance and Inspection Requirements

Prior to placing is service, every 30 days, and after use, visually inspect the sling assembly as follows:

  1. Inspect the hoisting sling cable for broken wires. Any single strand in the cable having 2 or fewer broken wires may be trimmed as needed. Any hoisting cable having 3 or more broken wires requires a hoisting sling replacement.
  2. If magnetic couplers are installed at the lifting rings, inspect the magnet attachment for security and the magnets for condition.
  3. Measure the compression on each compression sleeve for proper tolerances, 0.375 to 0.405 inch, using a caliper. If discrepancies are found, replace the hoisting sling assembly.
  4. If permanent kinks are found in the sling cable, replace the hoisting sling. Do not attempt to straighten these for continued use.
  5. Inspect the functioning of the four snap hooks - lubricate hinge points with light machine oil or WD-40 if any binding occurs.

Warning: Replace sling assembly showing any evidence of damage. Failure of sling may result in serious injury or death.

Installing the 190 and 193 Series Slings onto a 404/406 Medevac II Litter

  1. If installing a 193-A (Semi-permanent) hoisting sling, remove flotation from litter if installed.

Warning: Short legs of each sling half must be attached at litter head section attachment points; the long legs of each sling half must be attached at foot section attachment points. Failure to do so may result in injury or death of the patient during hoisting.

Warning: If using a 406-D or 406-D-TI Litter, ensure you are installing the correct part number hoisting sling: Part #190-SD or #193-SD

  1. Lay both sling assemblies in the litter bed with the short cables toward the head section and the long cables toward the foot section. One sling assembly is for the left side of the litter and the other is for the right side of the litter. Both assemblies are identical and may be installed on either side.

See Figure 1 below

  1. Open all four snap hooks by twisting the screw locks to the open position.
    1. Note: If installing a 193-A Semi-Permanent Hoisting Sling - slide one heat shrink sleeve onto the top of each hook allowing room for the gate to close properly.
  2. Locate the head section attachment points on the litter frame.
  3. Install the snap hook from the short cable assembly to the left head section attachment point. Install with the hook gate facing outboard of the litter.
  4. Repeat for the second sling assembly and install on the right head section attachment point.
  5. Locate the foot section attachment points on the litter frame.
  6. Remove all twists from the left sling assembly and install the snap hook from the long cable to the left foot section attachment point. Ensure the hook gate is facing outboard of the litter.
  7. Repeat for the second sling assembly and install on the right foot section attachment point.
  8. Hand tighten the locking nut on each snap hook. If installing a 193-A Semi-Permanent Hoisting Sling, perform 10-a. through - f. below. Otherwise, installation is complete.
    1. Starting with one snap hook, align the locking nut such that the holes through the nut and gate for the cotter pin are aligned.
    2. Install one cotter pin through the aligned holes and bend the ends of the pin back around the lock nut using needle-nose pliers.
    3. Slide the heat shrink sleeve down over the lock nut and cotter pin.
    4. Using a hot air source, heat the shrink sleeve to 150 degrees Fahrenheit (F). The sleeve will shrink and form around the lock nut and gate assembly to prevent tampering/removal of the hoisting sling.

    5. Repeat steps for all sling assembly snap hooks.
    6. Reinstall all flotation components removed in step 1 in accordance with the manufacturer's installation procedures. (Installation of 193-A sling complete.
